To enable automatic immobilisation, a Meta Trak driver recognition ID tag needs to be paired with the Shield PRO system. The ID tag is responsible for blocking and unblocking the immobiliser and, consequently, the vehicle's engine. When the vehicle ignition is off and the ID tag is out of range (5-10m), the immobiliser will block. When the ID tag comes back into close proximity to the vehicle, the engine immobiliser unblocks automatically, requiring no input from the vehicle owner/driver.

2. Conversion to Thatcham Category S7 or S5:

If your vehicle insurer requires you to have a Thatcham insurance-approved tracking system fitted to your vehicle, your Shield PRO system can be upgraded to achieve this.

Upgrading to a Thatcham Category S7 tracking system involves purchasing a Thatcham S7 subscription directly from Meta Trak. This addition provides 24/7 monitoring and professional theft support, converting your Shield PRO tracker and immobiliser system to a Thatcham Category S7 system, known as Meta Trak S7 ALS.

To upgrade to a Thatcham Category S5 tracking system, you need to purchase a Thatcham S5 subscription from Meta Trak and at least one driver recognition ID tag. The ID tag is required as part of the Thatcham Category S5 criteria, as all S5 systems feature automatic driver recognition. This feature proactively alerts Meta Trak’s secure operating centre when the vehicle is driven without the ID tag present. After conversion, your Meta Trak Shield becomes a Meta Trak S5 VTS.

Meta Trak’s Emergency Engine Unblock Procedure allows you to unblock the vehicle's immobiliser without needing a GSM connection (mobile phone signal or Internet access). If your Meta Trak engine immobiliser is in a ‘blocked’ state and you have no mobile phone signal to send an ‘unblock’ command to your system, you can use the Emergency Engine Unblock procedure to unblock it.

To use the Emergency Engine Unblock feature in the Meta Trak app, you need to create a secure digital key (created within the app upon first login). This key is encrypted and stored only on your device (smartphone) and is unique to your system. Once set up, you can use it to communicate directly with your engine immobiliser to unblock it without needing a mobile phone signal or internet access, albeit this can only be done locally (within 10 metres of the vehicle).

How does it work?

Once your secure key is created, you can start the unblocking procedure in the Meta Trak app. When you start this procedure, your smartphone will broadcast your unique secure key via Bluetooth. This broadcasted key contains the engine immobiliser unblock command, allowing you to communicate this command to the engine immobiliser directly, without relying on the mobile phone network. It's important to note that the Emergency Engine Unblock procedure is only used to unblock the engine immobiliser and cannot be used to block the engine immobiliser.

With Meta Trak’s modern smartphone app, it has never been easier to track your vehicle's location in real-time. See your vehicle's last updated position as soon as you open the Meta Trak app or send a position request command to receive your vehicle's live position. Keep the Meta Trak app open to watch your vehicle's live movements with Google Maps integration.

The Meta Trak app will log all your journeys for a year. A journey begins when your vehicle's ignition switches on, the vehicle moves, and ends when the vehicle's ignition switches off. This journey log can then be accessed inside the Meta Trak app with Google Maps integration. In addition to logging your journeys, the system can also monitor and score your driving behaviour. You can easily view your scored journeys from 0-100 in the journey log, thanks to the system's built-in gyro and accelerometer.

The Meta Trak Shield PRO system utilises a multi-frequency GNSS receiver, providing ultra-accurate and reliable positioning data from the GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite constellations, offering greater resistance to jamming.

If your vehicle's battery is disconnected or if power is lost to the tracking unit, the Meta Trak Shield PRO will generate an alert and notify you of this event via push notification in the Meta Trak app. In the event of power loss to the tracking unit, it will switch to its internal battery backup to ensure continued operation.

If your vehicle's battery falls below a pre-set threshold (11.6V), the system will send a push notification to the Meta Trak app. In the Meta Trak app, you can also view and monitor your vehicle's live battery voltage.

A subscription is necessary for your Meta Trak Shield PRO system for it to operate. All telematics products (tracking systems) incur costs as they transmit data and communicate over the mobile network.

Airtime:

Think of a tracking system as like a mobile phone and its airtime plan; you pay for the handset/tracking device, as well as for the data that the handset/tracking device transmits over the mobile network to the network providers.

In our case, your subscription pays the network providers to carry your tracking system's data across their network. Your subscription is slightly more expensive than a normal airtime plan. However, a modern tracking system usually utilises multi-roaming, so it transmits data over the network provider with the best connection in a given area. Your tracking device is not tied to a single network provider.
