Tracker & Immobiliser FAQs
Quick answers on Thatcham S5/S7 trackers, immobilisers, installation, and insurance.
Essentials
What’s the difference between S5 and S7 trackers?
S5 includes Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) tags. If your vehicle moves without an authorised tag, the monitoring centre is alerted automatically. S7 does not include ADR and relies on you reporting a theft. Many insurers require S5 for higher‑risk vehicles.
Do I receive an insurance certificate after installation?
Yes. We email your Thatcham installation certificate after the job is completed so you can forward it to your insurer right away.
How soon can you install?
We aim to install within 2–4 working days (typically ~3 days), subject to location and engineer availability. We’ll confirm your timeslot shortly after you book.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes. We provide UK‑wide mobile installation at your home or workplace.
Booking & installation
How does booking & installation work?
- Book online the product you want (S5, S7, or immobiliser).
- We confirm your earliest slot (usually within 2–4 working days).
- Engineer visits your home/workplace to install and test.
- Activation & certificate are completed and emailed after install.
What do I need ready on the day?
- Park somewhere safe with good access to the vehicle.
- Have the keys handy; for immobilisers we may ask for a spare key during installation.
- Ensure your phone is available for activation/app setup.
Can I transfer the system to my next vehicle?
Yes—most trackers and immobilisers can be professionally removed and re‑installed in another vehicle. Get in touch for a quote and to confirm compatibility.
Do you fit leased and fleet vehicles?
Absolutely. We regularly install on lease cars and fleets. If your insurer or lease company has specific requirements, tell us when booking and we’ll make sure they’re met.
Immobilisation & features
What is “No Tag, No Start”?
It’s an automatic immobiliser. If the ADR ID tag isn’t present, the engine remains immobilised. Available with products like Meta Trak DEADLOCK and ScorpionTrack S5+.
Can I remotely immobilise the vehicle?
Yes. Selected systems (e.g., Meta Trak DEADLOCK / ScorpionTrack S5+) support remote immobilisation via the app and 24/7 monitoring centre, subject to safety checks.
What subscriptions are required?
Thatcham‑approved trackers require an active monitoring subscription (varies by brand/model). You’ll choose annual or multi‑year plans after installation/activation.
What warranty do I get?
Meta Trak offers lifetime parts & labour while subscribed. ScorpionTrack typically includes a 2‑year hardware warranty. See each product page for exact terms.
Vehicles & coverage
Do you fit trackers to EVs, vans or motorhomes?
Yes. We regularly install on cars, vans, EVs, motorhomes and caravans. Tell us your make/model when booking and we’ll assign an experienced engineer.
What if there’s no mobile signal?
Trackers use multi‑network roaming SIMs to maximise coverage. Some systems also support Bluetooth‑based emergency features for temporary low‑signal situations.
More FAQs
Are your trackers accepted by UK insurers?
Yes. Thatcham S5 and S7 systems are widely recognised by UK insurers. Always check your policy wording; many high‑value vehicles require S5 (with ADR).
How does 24/7 monitoring work during a theft?
If a theft alert is triggered (e.g., ADR tag not present), the monitoring centre contacts you and, if confirmed, liaises with police to track and recover the vehicle.
Will a tracker drain my battery?
Trackers draw very low current and use sleep modes. Healthy vehicle batteries are not affected in normal use; long‑term storage may require a maintainer as usual.
What if I lose an ADR tag?
Contact us to order a replacement and have it paired. Until then, use the app to authorise journeys, or switch to service/valet mode to avoid false alerts.
What is Valet/Service mode?
A temporary mode in the app that suspends ADR alerts/immobilisation so garages and valets can move the vehicle without notifications. Don’t forget to turn it off afterwards.
Does an immobiliser affect my warranty or servicing?
Our immobiliser installs follow recognised methods and are designed to be reversible. Always inform your dealer; service/valet mode prevents disruption during servicing.
Is the OBD port immobiliser legal and MOT‑friendly?
Yes. It disables key‑cloning attack routes without removing diagnostic access. Technicians can work with your authorisation or in service mode.
Which phones and OS versions are supported?
iOS and Android are supported for tracking, alerts and immobilisation features. Keep your app updated for the latest security improvements.
What happens if I sell the car?
You can usually transfer the subscription to the new owner or book a removal and re‑install on your next vehicle. Ask us for options and pricing.
Do you store my location data?
Location data is used for theft detection/recovery and your app features, handled by the tracker brand’s secure platform. See our Privacy Policy and the brand’s policy for details.
Can I pause my subscription if the car is off the road?
Policies vary by brand. Get in touch with your subscription provider or ask us and we’ll advise based on your device.
