The Meta Trak S5 Tracker system features category S5 insurance-approved tracking at its core. Category S5 is the industry’s highest level of stolen vehicle tracking system accredited by Thatcham and approved by all UK vehicle insurers. The Meta Trak S5 Tracker’s tracking capabilities include 24/7/365 professional theft monitoring, live tracking, journey logging, and driver behaviour scoring.

See more information about tracking in the general features section.

Meta Trak's driver recognition system uses a small battery-operated ID tag that can be attached to your vehicle's keys. This tag emits a signal that the tracking unit detects to determine if an authorised driver is present (you are the only one with access to the ID tag). When the vehicle's ignition is turned on, the system checks for the ID tag. If the tag is found, it indicates that the authorised ID tag is present, likely meaning the authorised driver is present.

If the system fails to detect the ID tag, an alert will be sent automatically to the secure operating centre. Personnel from the monitoring centre will then contact you via phone to confirm the status of the vehicle. Meta Trak's driver recognition system also includes car-jacking alerts. Throughout the entire journey, the system monitors the presence of the ID. If you are carjacked and the system detects that the ID tag is lost, it will alert the monitoring centre.

Meta Trak’s ID tags use Bluetooth Low Energy technology to communicate with the system. The battery life of the ID tags is approximately 12-18 months before replacement is needed.

The Meta Trak S5 vehicle tracking system can make use of Meta Trak’s wireless link architecture technology. This technology allows various other Meta Trak hardware to be seamlessly paired into your S5 system. For example, if at some point after the initial installation of your S5 VTS, you decide to add Meta Trak’s engine immobiliser to your S5 tracking system, this can be done via an over-the-air software reconfiguration. This upgrade would turn your current S5 vehicle tracking system into what is called Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK.

The new engine immobiliser would need to be physically installed, but the engineer would not need to disrupt your initial installation by connecting your S5 tracker and the new engine immobiliser via hardwired connections. The new engine immobiliser can be installed anywhere in the vehicle, after which it will be remotely paired with your existing S5 tracking system and communicate with it wirelessly.

Meta Trak’s Wireless Link Architecture technology makes upgrading any Meta Trak tacking system fast, easy, trouble free, and cost-effective. It also allows for the most covert and secure installation possible by ensuring wire tracing between components is not possible.

The Meta Trak S5 system is monitored 24/7/365 via Meta Trak’s Secure Operating Centre. Meta Trak uses a National Security Inspectorate (NSI) approved centre for the professional handling of alerts and stolen vehicle tracking. This shows that the teams have relevant technical experience and are working to International, British Standards, and NSI Codes of Practice. Should your system generate any alert, personnel from the monitoring centre will call the number associated with your account immediately to confirm with you the status of the vehicle. If you confirm that your vehicle has been stolen, the team will liaise directly with police forces to provide them with live location data to recover your vehicle. This service is available throughout Europe.

With Meta Trak’s modern smartphone app, it has never been easier to track your vehicle's location in real-time. See your vehicle's last updated position as soon as you open the Meta Trak app or send a position request command to receive your vehicle's live position. Keep the Meta Trak app open to watch your vehicle's live movements with Google Maps integration.

The Meta Trak app will log all your journeys for a year. A journey begins when your vehicle's ignition switches on, the vehicle moves, and ends when the vehicle's ignition switches off. This journey log can then be accessed inside the Meta Trak app with Google Maps integration. In addition to logging your journeys, the system can also monitor and score your driving behaviour. You can easily view your scored journeys from 0-100 in the journey log, thanks to the system's built-in gyro and accelerometer.

The Meta Trak S5 system utilises a multi-frequency GNSS receiver, providing ultra-accurate and reliable positioning data from the GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite constellations, offering greater resistance to jamming.

Assisted GPS helps the tracking device acquire satellites faster via an internet link rather than being processed onboard, improving accuracy, speed, and reliability. This feature allows for more flexibility in installation, as it enables the devices to be installed in areas of the vehicle that would otherwise have navigational performance constraints, again aiding the covertness of any installation.

GSM can also be used to triangulate the vehicle's whereabouts using cell-based positioning.

Meta Trak's telematics devices utilise the latest generation Quad Band modem and a globally roaming SIM to ensure an optimal network connection for communications. This type of connectivity allows the device to connect to multiple mobile networks at the same time, switching seamlessly between the strongest signal available in the device's location. Automatic switching from network to network enables reliable data transmission and reception, even in areas with poor signal from a specific mobile network provider.

Should the position of your vehicle change while the ignition is off, such as if your vehicle is being towed, the system will send an alert to the secure operating centre. A team member will then call you to confirm the status of the vehicle. Additionally, a push notification alert of the event will be sent to you through the Meta Trak app.

If the battery of your vehicle is disconnected or if power is lost to the tracking unit, the system will send an alert to the secure control room. In the event of power loss to the tracking unit, it will switch to its internal battery backup to ensure continuous operation. Additionally, a push notification alert of the event will be sent to the Meta Trak app.

If your vehicle's battery falls below a pre-set threshold (11.6V) the system will send a push notification through to the Meta Trak app. You can also view and monitor your vehicle's live battery voltage in the Meta Trak app.

The tracking device load on the battery is virtually undetectable, but the device is still always reachable, i.e., not in a deep sleep state.

Depending on your specific Meta Trak security system, the quiescent drain is miniscule, at between 1 and 4mA (0.004A). To put that into context, a 100Ah battery (at 80% usable capacity) would take 28 months to drain with a 4mA load.

Firmware over the air (FOTA) allows your security systems operating system to be updated over the air, allowing enhancements to be deployed to existing customers.

For customer peace of mind, Meta Trak's insurance-approved security systems are actively monitored to ensure correct operation. As part of Thatcham's criteria for 'Vehicle Tracking Systems', Meta Trak will monitor and respond to any problems with your system that are reported through the system's daily health report.

The Meta Trak S5 is a modern Thatcham and insurance-approved category S5 stolen vehicle tracking system. It is mainly requested by vehicle insurers to reduce their risk from stolen vehicles, and it also provides lasting peace of mind for vehicle owners. The system features automatic driver recognition technology, which alerts the products monitoring team to potential theft events without the need for the vehicle owner to manually report the theft. If the vehicle is driven without the driver ID tag present, the Meta Trak S5 system uses automatic driver recognition to alert the monitoring team to a potential theft.

The Meta Trak S5 is suitable for customers who want to meet their vehicle insurer's policy requirements or would like that extra peace of mind of having a robust, Thatcham-accredited tracking system with professional theft support in case of the worst happening.

The Meta Trak S5 vehicle tracking system includes the following main features -

1 - Thatcham and Insurance-approved Category S5 Stolen Vehicle Tracking

Category S5 trackers fall under Thatcham's Category S5: Vehicle Tracking Systems. Insurance companies require them to be installed on high-value vehicles prone to theft. S5 trackers provide round-the-clock monitoring, theft support, live tracking, automatic driver recognition, and more.

The most significant advantage of S5 trackers is their automatic driver recognition feature which quickly alerts the monitoring centre of any unauthorised movements of the vehicle, such as during a theft.

If a vehicle is stolen, the monitoring centre confirms the theft with the owner and professionally liaises with the police to assist with the vehicle's recovery, using direct links to police control rooms.

2 - Automatic Driver Recognition

Meta Trak's driver recognition system uses a small battery-operated ID tag that can be attached to your vehicle's keys. When you start the vehicle, the system checks for the ID tag. If the tag is found, it shows that the authorised driver is likely present.

If the system can't find the ID tag (such as in a theft event), it sends an alert to the secure operating centre. The monitoring centre will then call you to confirm the vehicle's status, If you confirm a theft a recovery procedure will begin with help from the police in which the monitoring centre has direct lines into their control rooms.

Meta Trak’s ID tags use Bluetooth Low Energy technology to communicate with the system. The ID tags' batteries need to be replaced on average every 12-18 months.

Of course, there are many more features included with the Meta Trak S5, please see further information in the ‘Key’ and ‘General’ features sections.

Yes, the Meta Trak S5 VTS is recognised and accepted by all UK vehicle insurers as a Thatcham category S5 vehicle tracking system.

The Meta Trak S5 Tracker is covered by Meta Trak’s lifetime parts and labour warranty.

• For the original owner only.

• A subscription must be active to make a claim.

The main difference between the Meta Trak S5 and the Meta Trak S7 is that the S5 includes automatic driver recognition technology. This feature identifies whether the vehicle driver is an authorised person. It typically operates with a small, battery-powered ID tag the authorised driver carries. When the vehicle ignition is turned on, the Meta Trak S5 scans for this ID tag. It confirms that an authorised driver is present if it detects the correct tag.

However, if the Meta Trak S5 does not detect an authorised ID tag when the ignition is activated and the vehicle starts moving, it sends an alert to Meta Trak’s secure operating centre (SOC). The SOC then contacts the vehicle owner to verify the vehicle’s status in the event that it could indicate a real theft.

In contrast, the Meta Trak S7 does not have this critical feature. As a result, it relies on the vehicle owner to notice if their vehicle has been stolen and to inform Meta Trak, which can hinder prompt engagement of recovery efforts.

A subscription is necessary for your Meta Trak S5 tracking system to operate.

All telematics products (tracking systems) incur costs as they transmit data and communicate over the mobile network.

Airtime:

Think of a tracking system as like a mobile phone and its airtime plan; you pay for the handset/tracking device, as well as for the data that the handset/tracking device transmits over the mobile network to the network providers.

In our case, your subscription pays the network providers to carry your tracking system's data across their network. Your subscription is slightly more expensive than a normal airtime plan. However, a modern tracking system usually utilizes multi-roaming, so it transmits data over the network provider with the best connection in a given area. Your tracking device is not tied to a single network provider.

Theft Monitoring:

When you subscribe to a tracking system, you are paying for the 'airtime' for your hardware to use the mobile network to transmit data, as well as for 24/7/365 theft monitoring.

If your tracking system is Thatcham-approved (Insurance-approved), it will include 24/7/365 theft monitoring as standard. The subscription costs for these types of products are higher than for a device that is simply used to transmit location data, such as a fleet or self-monitored type of product.

Your subscription cost covers both the cost of 'airtime' and a professional theft support service. This theft support service is available 24 hours a day to notify you of the potential theft of your vehicle.

In the event of an alert being generated by your vehicle tracking system, it is sent to the monitoring centre. Personnel at the monitoring centre are then notified on screen of the alert, and all alerts are responded to by a telephone call to the vehicle owner/driver. If a theft is confirmed, monitoring centre personnel will use direct lines into police control rooms to coordinate the recovery of your vehicle.

Summary:

As you can see, the professional theft monitoring service included with Thatcham/Insurance-approved tracking systems commands a higher subscription price compared to ordinary tracking devices used solely for locational purposes.

A professional theft support service is mandatory for a tracking system to be accredited as a Thatcham category S7 or S5 product. Both categories are used by vehicle insurers to lower their risk concerning vehicle crime and are also known as insurance-approved vehicle tracking systems.
